About Us

Become part of the family

Dear Friends,

Looking in my rear view mirror, I see the Labor Day holiday celebration and the school busses back on our streets. Our high school and college grads have entered new phases of their lives while our citizens are preparing for a changing season that’s just around the corner.

In spite of taking a breath to reflect, I cannot put aside the struggle of some of our citizens who lack the financial resources to provide food for themselves (and their families). I am also reminded of a recent survey (www.schd.org) that concluded: “In most cases, to be homeless in America is not a sign of laziness or incapacity, but an indicator of people who struggle immensely, both physically and emotionally, to survive against the odds.”

The people who know Shalom are aware that hunger is a symptom that can strike quickly when resources are lacking that can create insecurity, impaired health and community exclusion.

This year, we expect to serve over 53,000 meals. That’s an increase of 15.2 % over the last two years alone. As the demand for nutritious meals continues to mount, we are fully committed to staying the course. But, without the support of our volunteers and the needed financial assistance, our ability to meet this demand will be extremely challenging.

If you are able, will you consider making a monetary gift? Finally, please remember this ministry in your prayers so that together, we can make Spokane a better place as we set a table for our guests at Dining with Dignity!

Have a blessed Fall season,
